HKMHDIA exchanges with HK Consumer Council about RAT issues in Hong Kong

Further to the Consumer Council’s invitation for inputs – Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) list supplementary information in early of March. The Association had taken this opportunity to exchange the concerns regarding the surging supply which induced the concerns in RAT’s quality and spread of confusing information of the RAT available in the market. The Council shared following highlights with our Associations and members:

  1. The transparency of medical device information is important; such as full disclosure of accreditation information and expiry date of the product on the traders’ online sales platforms as well as their authorized online distribution channels
  2. Traders should correspondingly enhance their customer services, stock-taking, logistics and delivery arrangements before embarking on receiving substantial number of orders that go beyond their handling capability
  3. Encourage more active action in tipping off “problematic” RAT product to the responsible law enforcement agencies, especially the Custom and Excise Department

We believe the coordinate and support such initiatives with statutory body will help to enhance the public awareness on selecting safe medical device with high quality and performance in the market.
